postheadericon Acer erecovery management password recovery

You lost your acer recovery manager password or just do not remember what it was ?

The default is usually 000000 if this does not work plz follow the steps below.

If your windows does not boot anymore hook up the HD on a different computer using an USB interface or something similar.

Using the program ParTEDIT32 we can set a different TYPE to the hidden partition " PQSERVICE "

Remember the type it was set on originally, and change it to 07 replug the HD and the hidden PQSERVICE partition should be visible.

In the partition you should be able to locate the file aimdrs.dat, open it with notepad.

Now you see the password and password tip and you can edit it.

Restore the partition type with ParTEDIT32 and you'r done!

You solved my problem. Thanks
I made it with a little change: I used a Linux Ubuntu 10.04 "live" CD to change partition type
"sudo fdisk /dev/sda"
and then opened aimdrs.dat with an editor "gedit".

I took out the hard drive and put the drive into a USB external device. I opened the PQSERVICE partition and found the aimdrs.dat file. I right clicked and chose "Open with..." and opened the file with notepad. Inside the file was 3 lines of text with the password and the password hint. I used the password and it worked! Very easy fix. I was able to restore my Acer Aspire.
